Thermoplastic Striping: Port of Baltimore

Teniseal/Parking Striping Corporation is proud to complete the installation and maintenance of many road striping projects in Maryland. If you commute through Maryland, there is a good chance that Teniseal Corporation installed those road or parking lot markings. Striping is a necessary part of what gives our commute structure and safety in every area where there is asphalt or cement; here’s a look at how we contributed our thermoplastic striping services to the Port of Baltimore!

The Port of Baltimore

Among Maryland’s roadways, lanes, and lots, the Port of Baltimore is one of the most industrious. According to maryland.gov, it is the number one port handling automobiles, farm equipment, construction machinery, light trucks, and imported gypsum, and the U.S. Coast Guard has given its public terminals a high mark in security for the thirteenth year in a row, as of 2021. The Port of Baltimore is home to numerous public and private terminals for cargo, containers, and cruise lines.

Port of Baltimore History

Port of Baltimore is over 300 years old. It began as a natural port for trading tobacco and other goods with England, and before the year 1800, it became a port for trading with Europe, South America, the West Indies, and China. In 1845, the port connected with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, expanding its trading capacity inland. Since 1956, the state agency called the Maryland Port Authority has managed its operations.

Through multiple wars and the construction of two forts off the coast (Fort Whetstone and Fort McHenry,) the Port of Baltimore has only gotten deeper and wider over the centuries to accommodate more and larger ships. Beginning at a minimum of 17 feet deep and 150 feet wide, it now reaches 51 feet deep and 700 feet wide. The port has also initiated various environmental projects, such as stormwater management systems. It continues to add new functions, features, and improvements in 2022.
